Who Receives Your Immigration Medical Exam Results?

Your immigration medical exam is a key part of the consular process, and many people wonder: Do I receive the results? Do I have to take them physically to the Consulate?

In this blog, we explain what happens after your medical appointment, when a sealed envelope is required, in which cases your results are sent digitally, and what to do if you lose your documentation.

How Are the Medical Exam Results Delivered to the U.S. Consulate in Cd. Juárez?

Today, if you had your exam at an authorized clinic such as Clínica Médica Internacional (CMI) and depending on the type of immigrant visa you are applying for, the medical results can be sent in two ways:

  • Directly and electronically to the U.S. Consulate
In this method, the U.S. Consulate in Cd. Juárez receives them and automatically links them to your case file.
  • Through a sealed envelope with your results, which you must personally take on the day of your appointment at the U.S. Consulate in Cd. Juárez for your interview.

When Are Results Still Delivered in a Sealed Envelope?

Although in most cases results are sent directly and electronically to the U.S. Consulate, there are situations where a physical sealed envelope is still required. This depends on the type of U.S. residency you are applying for. Here are the cases in which it applies:

  • If you are applying for a K (Fiancé) visa.
  • Specific cases previously indicated by the U.S. Consulate in Cd. Juárez.

This envelope must remain closed and in perfect condition until your consular appointment. It must not be opened or tampered with.

How Do You Know if Your Case Qualifies for Direct Electronic Delivery to the Consulate?

Generally, digital delivery applies to all immigrant visas and adoption cases.

How to Confirm?

If you had your exam at Clínica Médica Internacional, you can ask our staff or check directly with the U.S. Consulate in Cd. Juárez.

If you are inside the U.S. and doing your process with Form I-693, the procedure is different.

Did You Lose the Envelope With Your Results and Still Need It?

If you lost the physical envelope that was given to you to present at your interview with the U.S. Consulate, you can request a replacement at the clinic. However, the clinic must inform the Consulate and request authorization to do so. If this is your case, come to our clinic immediately so we can guide you.

What Do You Need to Replace Your Envelope?

Present yourself at CMI with:

  • Your valid passport.
  • Your case number or proof of your appointment.
  • Confirmation that your medical exam is still within the validity period (usually 6 months).

At CMI, we keep your medical file in accordance with official protocols, so you do not need to repeat your tests as long as your medical exam is still valid.

What Happens if Your Exam Is No Longer Valid?

In that case, a new envelope cannot be issued. You must complete a new exam following official instructions.
Important: This request does not come from the clinic but from the U.S. Consulate or the National Visa Center (NVC).
At CMI, we will help you reschedule your appointment and address your questions with clear and up-to-date information.

Tips to Avoid Losing Your Medical Documentation

Although the process is evolving toward digital formats, some cases still require the envelope. That’s why we share these recommendations to avoid losing it:

  • Keep the envelope in a rigid folder along with your passport and all your documentation.
  • Do not open it, even if you are curious. Opening it invalidates it.
  • Avoid leaving it in an open backpack and out of your sight.
  • If you must leave it in your lodging, make sure it is in a secure place where only you have access.
